Get to know me in three:
- My home away from home:
- Florida Keys.
- The values that influence me:
- Compassion, honesty, respect.
- The challenge that shaped me:
- Around my 20th birthday I started feeling excruciating pain in my neck, back and the right side of my body. After multiple scans, the doctor discovered a tumor on the thoracic level of my spine. I was starting my second semester at the University of Florida and I immediately had to withdrawal from school that semester and move back to Miami for major surgery. This process also included 5 months of rehabilitation and recovery. The surgery was 6 hours long – they removed my tumor and added 2 titanium plates, 4 rods, and 6 screws. This unfortunate situation really was a blessing in disguise for me. It gave me a newfound appreciation for life and showed me that if I could overcome this, I could overcome anything.
