Get to know me in three:
- My home away from home:
- I have had the opportunity to travel to Jerusalem a few times and absolutely loved it. There is something about the deep historical and religious aspect of the city that really draws me in.
- The values that influence me:
- With my mother being born in Jerusalem and my father in Brazil, I was raised to be proud of my ethnic and cultural background as a first-generation American. Having this value instilled in me my entire life is something that attracted to me LCW and the important work they do.
- What makes LCW special:
- The LCW team is a prime example of when a passionate group of individuals with similar goals comes together to make an impact in communities and organizations worldwide. Being a member of such a team is so refreshing and truly invigorating.
Amir’s interest in global diversity, culture and languages began at home, where he grew up in a bicultural household heavily influenced by both his mother’s Palestinian roots and his father’s Brazilian background. He brought these early experiences to his role as a Resident Advisor for University Housing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was responsible for building inclusive spaces for students on campus who came from different nationalities and ethnicities, gender identities and sexual orientations, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
Before joining LCW, Amir worked as an Arabic translator for a high school district located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. He also received his certification to teach English as a foreign language from the International TEFL Academy in Chicago and has taught English online to students from countries ranging from Saudi Arabia to China. During his free time, you can find Amir playing tennis or his bass trombone. Amir holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Global Studies and has advanced proficiency in Arabic.
