Understanding Microaggressions

This session:

  • Provides skills for people leaders around microaggressions—subtle and commonplace behaviors, slights, or indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that are regularly experienced by marginalized groups and occur day-to-day within professional environments.
  • Instills a sense of urgency to do something to identify and address microaggressions in order to support a culture of inclusion.
  • Requires participants to engage in difficult conversations
  • Discuss potentially uncomfortable topics and questions
  • Will unpack examples of microaggressions that may be getting in the way of inclusive outcomes
  • Provides examples of microaggressions in the workplace, and allows for discussion on how it feels to be on the receiving end of a microaggression
  • Leads practical conversation-starters
  • Addresses how leaders can make it OK to allow others to call them in when they engage in a microaggression.
  • Please note, that this session is highly interactive and engaging—with attention to creating opportunities for small group dialogue.
